Kansas alumnus David Booth has pledged a $300 million gift to the University of Kansas, marking the largest donation in school and athletics history. The announcement comes just before KU football’s season opener against Fresno State on Aug. 23.
Booth’s contribution will advance Phase II of the Gateway District, which includes upgrades to David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, new retail and dining spaces, student housing, and an outdoor plaza. Of the total, $75 million will serve as a challenge to encourage other donors.
The remaining funds will create long-term support for KU Athletics as it navigates a changing college sports landscape.
Booth, founder of Dimensional Fund Advisors, has a long history of giving to KU, including donations for stadium renovations and the purchase of James Naismith’s original rules of basketball.
