Brig. Gen. Carlin Williams to Succeed Brig. Gen. Anthony Mohatt as Commander of Kansas Army National Guard

Brig. Gen. Carlin Williams will be sworn in as the assistant adjutant general – Army and commander of the Kansas Army National Guard during a change of command ceremony on March 1 in Topeka. Williams, who has served in numerous leadership roles, including five deployments, will succeed Brig. Gen. Anthony Mohatt, who is retiring after serving in the position since 2016.

“The leadership of the Kansas National Guard invested in me over my career, providing opportunities and entrusting me with leadership in organizations both here and abroad,” said Williams. “I am committed to the organization and will leverage my experience to mentor the next generation, lead the organization within our dynamic and complex world, and continue to ensure we have a manned force ready to respond to the state and nation.”

Williams began his military career as a combat medic in 1996 and later commissioned as an infantry officer. He has held various leadership roles in the Kansas Army National Guard, including commander of the 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 137th Infantry Regiment, and J3 Director of Operations for the Kansas National Guard. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantryman’s Badge. Williams holds advanced degrees in public administration and strategic studies and works in healthcare information technology.

In his farewell message, Mohatt expressed confidence in the future leadership of the Kansas Army National Guard, praising the soldiers’ dedication and readiness. Mohatt’s career includes extensive leadership experience, including roles in the 35th Infantry Division, and he has received numerous awards, including the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal. Mohatt retired from law enforcement in 2021 and currently serves as the CEO of Gades Sales Company.
