Brown Grand Players to Present Heartfelt Play “A Bench in Dragonfly Park” April 24–26

By: Ryan Duey

The Brown Grand Players, a group of talented local area actors, will present “A Bench in Dragonfly Park” at the Brown Grand Theatre on April 24th, 25th, and 26th at 7:00 p.m. This touching story is written by siblings Alice Burke and Scott Mullen. Long-time Brown Grand Player Kristina Frost has also written two additional scenes that will be included in the play.

Katie Jones, Brown Grand Player, said audience members will get to meet all the characters centered around a typical park bench.

“It is sequential, so you get to see what happens at this park at this specific bench from morning till evening. All of the characters are vastly different, but they’re all very similar in that they’re all grappling with their own issues.”

“You just kind of see how important it is to have connections, and how important it is for us to have each other.”

Jones emphasized that this performance may not be suitable for children under 13, as it does have some mature content. Parents with younger children should use discretion when bringing a child.

Jones said the Brown Grand Players is for anyone who would like to try their hand at acting.

“We’re not just local to Concordia, we accept anybody willing to make the drive to rehearsals. We typically put on two shows a year, one in the Fall and one in the Spring.”

“We just love the group that we work with. Every single time we have auditions, we meet somebody new, and they just kind of get hooked. It’s a lovely family that we’ve created here at the Brown Grand.”

“So, anybody who is interested in learning more about how to become a Player and how to become involved in the plays themselves, give Brown Grand a call, and they will point you in the right direction.”

Tickets for each performance will be available at the door the evening of the event. Everyone is encouraged to attend and support the local artists and experience a captivating play, all set on a single park bench.
