BrucePac, based in Durant, Oklahoma, is recalling approximately 9,986,245 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, as announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The recall affects products produced between June 19, 2024, and October 8, 2024, which were shipped to various establishments and distributors across the nation, including restaurants and institutions.

The recalled items bear establishment numbers “51205 or P-51205” within the USDA mark of inspection. The issue arose after FSIS conducted routine testing and found Listeria monocytogenes in finished products containing RTE poultry from BrucePac. Although no confirmed adverse reactions have been reported, Listeriosis can be a serious infection, particularly affecting older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women.

Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, and gastrointestinal issues. Those in high-risk categories experiencing flu-like symptoms within two months of consuming the contaminated products should seek medical attention. FSIS warns that some affected products may still be in restaurants or homes and advises not to consume them; instead, they should be discarded or returned to the point of purchase.
