Royals right fielder Jac Caglianone is expected to land on the 10-day injured list after leaving Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader with left hamstring tightness. The 22-year-old first felt discomfort while chasing a double in the outfield, then again while running out a ground ball.
Caglianone exited quietly after the second inning, with John Rave shifting to right field. Royals manager and medical staff evaluated him postgame. Imaging showed no major damage, but general manager J.J. Picollo said the team is likely to place him on the IL Sunday morning.
The move would clear space for outfielder Randal Grichuk, who was acquired midgame from Arizona. Grichuk is expected to be activated Sunday and start against left-hander Joey Cantillo.
Caglianone, who debuted in June, is hitting .148 with five home runs. The Royals will likely use a platoon in right field while he recovers.
