CCCHS Students Compete in National Forensics This June

Students from CCCHS’ forensics team competed in the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Richmond, VA. 

Students compete in two types of events. Main events, which they must

qualify to compete in, then if eliminated, supplemental events to continue the competition.

Here are the overall tournament stats: Schools: 1,254, Entries: 7,908,  Competitors: 5,749, Judges: 2,360, States: 49

Events/Divisions: 23

Alessia Carrales—competed in Congressional Debate in the House and in Extemp Debate as a Supplemental.

Against 441 others in House, Carrales was put into one of 24 chambers.

Carrals finished 15th in her chamber. In Extemp Debate she went 1-3.

Savemore Nyamakope—Competed in Program of Oral Interpretation and Poetry. She was one of 285 in POI, finishing 73rd overall and 373 of 415 in Poetry.

Four CCCHS students competed in Worlds School Debate, making a portion of the 10-person  West Kansas District team.

Sam Peters competed on the West Kansas Blue (varsity team), Chase Colson, Eli Kimbrough, and Sophia Carrier all competed on West Kansas Red. This district team is coached by Megan Blackburn (Clay Center) and Dakota Yates (Buhler). Out of 220 teams, including international students, West Kansas Blue went 1-5 with Peters finishing 409th out of 493 storytelling competitors. Colson finished 382nd. West Kansas Red team finished 1-5. Kimbrough landed 314 out of 415 Poetry competitors and Carrier finished 400th.

Greyson Brandt and Kyleigh Falkenbury competed in supplementals. Brandt competed in Original Spoken Word Poetry, finishing 128th out of 493 and 296th in Storytelling out of 493. Falkenbury finished 351st out of 415 competitors in Poetry and 316th out of 440 competitors in Prose.
