Kansas State sophomore Kelsey Chen has been named the Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Week following her first career collegiate victory at the Puerto Rico Classic. The honor was announced Thursday by the conference office.
Chen is the first Wildcat to receive an in-season Big 12 award since March 2024, as the league introduced weekly honors this spring. The Dalian, China, native rallied from six shots back entering the final round to finish tied for first at 10-under-par 206, matching the sixth-best 54-hole score in program history.
Her win marked the 28th individual title in K-State women’s golf history and the ninth under head coach Stew Burke. Chen shot under par in all three rounds and defeated several nationally ranked players, including the top-ranked golfer.
The Wildcats finished sixth in the 18-team field. Chen and K-State return to action Feb. 22–23 at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Arizona.
