The Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas Governor’s Office announced Monday an agreement to build a new domed stadium and related developments in Kansas. The project includes a $3 billion stadium in Wyandotte County scheduled to open for the 2031 NFL season, along with a new team headquarters and training facility in Olathe.
State officials estimate the project will create more than 20,000 jobs and generate $4.4 billion in economic impact during construction. Both locations are expected to feature mixed-use development, including entertainment, dining, retail, offices, hotels and housing.
The plan was approved by the Kansas Legislative Coordinating Council with bipartisan support and will be funded through a public-private partnership, with 60 percent public and 40 percent private funding. Officials said the agreement requires no new state taxes or current budget funds.
