Chiefs’ Rashee Rice Sentenced to 30 Days in Jail for Role in 2024 Crash

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was sentenced Thursday to 30 days in jail and five years of probation for his role in a six-car crash that occurred on March 30, 2024, in Dallas.

Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges: collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing injury. A Dallas County district court judge granted Rice deferred adjudication, meaning the charges will be dismissed if he successfully completes the probation period. The judge also ruled that Rice may serve the 30-day jail sentence at any time during the five years of probation.

According to Dallas police, Rice was driving a Lamborghini at 119 mph on the highway shoulder when his car was struck by a Corvette driven by SMU player Teddy Knox. The collision caused Rice’s vehicle to spin across several lanes, hitting multiple vehicles. Knox was also reportedly driving at 116 mph.

The crash injured four people and involved eight individuals, including a 3-year-old child. A police report listed speeding, unsafe lane changes, and improper use of the shoulder as contributing factors.

Rice paid over $115,000 in restitution to the victims for medical expenses. In a statement, he expressed remorse and urged others to drive responsibly.

The NFL is currently reviewing the case, and a suspension is expected during the 2025 season.
