Chiefs Restructure Contracts to Free Up Cap Space

The Kansas City Chiefs have created $49.446 million in salary cap space by restructuring the contracts of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive tackle Chris Jones, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

The move allows the team to cover recent transactions, including placing the franchise tag on guard Trey Smith and re-signing linebacker Nick Bolton and wide receiver Hollywood Brown.

The Chiefs also made additions in free agency, signing offensive tackle Jaylon Moore and cornerback Kristian Fulton.

This marks the fourth time Mahomes has adjusted his contract since 2021. He previously restructured in 2023 and 2024 to free up cap space. The 29-year-old is under contract through 2031 with a total deal worth nearly $500 million.
