Chikomba Earns Big 12 Men’s Athlete of the Week

Kansas State junior Tah Chikomba was named the Big 12 Men’s Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, marking the first time a Wildcat has won the indoor weekly honor since January 2020. He is the 15th K-State athlete to earn the award.

Chikomba, a native of Zimbabwe, won the men’s long jump at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational on January 30 with a leap of 8.09 meters (26’ 6.5”), just half an inch short of his personal best. His performance beat several world-class competitors, including athletes from the U.S., Jamaica, and the Bahamas.

He is currently ranked No. 2 in the NCAA for the men’s long jump and holds the top mark in the Big 12, also ranking sixth in the world according to World Athletics. Chikomba began the season with a win at the Thane Baker Invitational on January 16.

K-State returns to competition February 13–14 at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
