Clay Co. Museum to Host Presentation on Women’s Suffragist Mural in Capitol Building

The Clay County Museum will display a presentation on December 5th from 5:30-6:30 on the Kansas Woman Suffrage Movement. Artist Phyllis Pease, a Manhattan resident, will speak about her mural, which features local suffragists. Pease won the bid over other artists and the completed artwork will be displayed in the Capitol Building in Topeka. Pease will be presenting via the Smoky Hill Museum program and will be shown live via a Zoom link.

In addition, Jeanne Klein will discuss Laura Johns, who was active in the Women’s suffrage movement.

Contributions will be accepted and donated to help cover the installation cost of the Suffragist mural. As of their last public update, the mural is around $9,000 short of hitting their fundraising goal.

All are welcome. More information can be found on the Kansas Suffragist Memorial Facebook page.
