Clay County Conservation District Invites Community to 2025 Annual Meeting

By: Ryan Duey

The public is encouraged to attend the Clay County Conservation District’s 2025 Annual Meeting on Monday, January 27th at the Clay County Event Center, beginning with a complimentary catered meal at 6:00 p.m.

This annual meeting offers fellowship while recognizing conservation award winners from the previous year. Jessica Boeckman, District Manager, spoke about what will take place that evening.

“The Conservation District’s Annual Meeting is really designed to allow the Board of Supervisors to report back to the residents of Clay County about the previous year’s conservation activities. But it also gives us the opportunity to recognize landowners who are doing an outstanding job of conservation stewardship.”

“This year we will present awards for soil conservation, grassland management, and windbreak practices, as well as a young farmer award. It’s going to be a wonderful evening of food and fellowship, completely centered around conservation stewardship.”

The evening’s special guest speaker will be Kansas Farm Bureau Professor of Agricultural Law and Taxation at Washburn University, Roger McEowen. McEowen founded the ISU Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation at Iowa State University. Prior to joining ISU, he was an Associate Professor at Kansas State University. McEowen conducts two radio programs, aired throughout the nation on farm radio stations as well as on Sirius XM. He is also a weekly guest on RFD-TV, discussing various agricultural law and tax topics. Along with all this, he conducts nearly 100 seminars annually for farmers, ranchers, and other agriculture professionals.

Boeckman said this year there will be a new addition to the meeting, that both parents and children will enjoy.

“This year we have added the opportunity for kids to join young adults over in the Conference Center for activities. Sometimes kids get a little squirmy, adults too.  We have added those kids’ activities so parents can enjoy the full evening. We don’t want them to miss out on Roger’s speech.”

Patrons are asked to RSVP by Thursday, January 16th. This will give the staff a head count for seating and food. Additional information on this year’s Annual Meeting, along with how to RSVP, can be found on their Facebook page.
