Kansas State struggled from long range Saturday and fell 83-73 to No. 10 BYU in the Big 12 opener at Bramlage Coliseum. The Wildcats, who entered the game among the nation’s top 3-point shooting teams, made just 3 of 21 attempts from beyond the arc.
BYU used a strong finish to the first half to build a 45-35 lead at the break and answered each K-State push in the second half. The Wildcats cut the margin to seven points late but could not get closer.
Junior P.J. Haggerty led K-State with 24 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals in his first Big 12 game. Abdi Bashir Jr. added 16 points and hit all three of the Wildcats’ 3-pointers. David Castillo scored 13 points and Khamari McGriff finished with 12.
K-State scored 48 points in the paint and forced 19 turnovers but was out-rebounded 47-35.
