On Saturday, May 31, survivors of impaired driving, families of victims, law enforcement, and advocates will gather at Celebration Park in Gardner for Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Kansas. This event raises funds to support Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and its free, around-the-clock services for victims and their families.
Drunk driving remains a serious issue in Kansas, contributing to 32% of all traffic deaths in 2023, according to NHTSA. Participants in Walk Like MADD will share stories of loss, survival, and strength, highlighting the devastating impact of impaired driving and the urgent need for change.
Money raised will directly support MADD’s 24/7 victim services, including:
- Help navigating victim compensation
- Guidance through the criminal and civil justice systems
- Court support during hearings and trials
- Assistance with writing victim impact statements
- Emotional support and peer connections
- Referrals to additional resources and support groups
