Controlled burns at McConnell AFB

News Release

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan.– The base plans to conduct controlled burns near its southeast end starting Thursday morning around 8 a.m.

The burns are subject to weather conditions, primarily wind speed and direction.

Burns will tentatively begin in the area near 47th Street and Rock Road. After post-burn assessments, the base will continue burns this weekend moving westward.

The Air Force Wildland Fire Branch worked with the McConnell Fire Department to prepare the prescribed areas for safe burning this week. Controlled fires like these remove excess vegetation under careful supervision to reduce the risk of uncontrolled wildfire.
