Davids and LaTurner Secure $3.5 Million for Kansas Avenue Bridge Replacement, Enhancing Connectivity and Safety

On Monday, August 6, Representative Sharice Davids visited the Kansas Avenue Bridge replacement project to celebrate the successful funding request she and Representative Jake LaTurner secured. According to a news release, the funding will help replace the bridge that connects Kansas and Missouri and supports 8,000 trips daily. The bridge has been closed for several years due to structural and safety issues.

The project will receive $3.5 million in federal support and is part of 15 initiatives secured by Davids, aimed at purchasing new law enforcement training vehicles, modernizing infrastructure, and improving water access during extreme weather. The updated bridge will feature modern streetscapes with enhanced pedestrian, bicycle, and ADA accommodations, meeting Complete Streets standards designed for safe and accessible use by all. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City will oversee the bridge’s upgrade.

“This project to replace the Kansas Avenue Bridge marks a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance infrastructure and connectivity in our region, ensuring safer and more efficient travel for folks living in both Kansas and Missouri,” said Davids. “I’m grateful to have worked with Representative LaTurner and our local officials to request targeted investments in our infrastructure that make our communities safer, more efficient, and better equipped to handle expected growth and future tourism.”
