Davids Backs Bipartisan Bill to Boost Sustainable Aviation Fuel

U.S. Representative Sharice Davids, along with three other lawmakers, has introduced the Securing America’s Fuels (SAF) Act. This bipartisan bill aims to strengthen the sustainable aviation fuel industry, create new opportunities for farmers, and cut emissions from transportation.

The SAF industry currently depends on the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Tax Credit to stay economically viable. Although the credit was recently extended, lawmakers removed the extra incentive specifically for SAF producers. The new bill would restore that bonus credit, allowing qualifying producers to earn up to $1.75 per gallon, and it would extend the 45Z credit for all clean fuels through 2033 to give the industry more long-term stability.

Supporters say expanding SAF will benefit local communities and agriculture by creating thousands of construction, operations, and agriculture-related jobs in the coming years. SAF can also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 80 percent. Davids co-chairs the Congressional Sustainable Aviation Caucus, which focuses on advancing cleaner aviation technologies.
