Defense, Johnson Lead Wildcats Past TCU 41-28

Kansas State used a balanced effort from quarterback Avery Johnson and two defensive touchdowns to defeat TCU 41-28 on Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

Johnson threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns, including two to tight end Garrett Oakley, who became K-State’s all-time leader in touchdown catches by a tight end with 11. Running back Joe Jackson added 110 rushing yards on 27 carries.

The Wildcat defense made key plays, with Wesley Fair scoring on a 15-yard fumble return and Des Purnell adding a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown. Purnell finished with two interceptions and a sack.

K-State (3-4, 2-2 Big 12) built a 21-7 lead in the third quarter and held off a late TCU push to secure its sixth win in the last seven meetings with the Horned Frogs. The Wildcats have a bye before facing Kansas on October 25.
