DNA Testing Identifies Remains Found in 1973 Near Garnett, Kansas, as Missing Teen Jimmy Allen Dollison

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office have identified human remains found near Garnett, Kansas, in 1973, bringing closure to a family after 52 years. On April 18, 1973, the decomposed body of an unidentified male was discovered southeast of Garnett, dressed in a brown corduroy jacket, a green long-sleeved shirt, jeans, brown hiking boots, and a navy blue stocking cap. He was also wearing rings and a silver chain with crosses. An autopsy determined the man’s death was a homicide due to trauma, and he was estimated to be around 20 years old.

In 2024, DNA was extracted for forensic genetic genealogy testing, funded by the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs). In early 2025, the testing identified relatives, leading investigators to Jimmy Allen Dollison, who had gone missing from Kansas City, Kansas, in late 1972 at the age of 16. His family had never learned what happened to him. The KBI and Anderson County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

Anyone who has information about the disappearance or murder of Jimmy Dollison is asked to call the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME, or report tips online at https://www.kbi.ks.gov/sar.
