Drug Take Back Day Collects Over 9,000 Pounds of Medications in Kansas, Tops 19 Million Nationwide Since 2010

National Drug Take Back Day provides a safe way to dispose of expired, unwanted, or unused prescription medications and helps reduce the risk of misuse. For 16 years, the DEA has worked with local partners to make medication disposal accessible and raise awareness about the dangers of keeping unused drugs at home

The last Drug Take-back Day took place on April 26, 2025, and saw participation from 110 law enforcement agencies in Kansas with 73 collection sites, and a total of 9,324 lbs. of drugs were collected. Nationwide, 4,472 law enforcement agencies participated with 4,590 collection sites. A total of 620,321 pounds of drugs were collected.

Since the start of Drug Take-back Day in 2010, Kansas has collected 277,989 lbs. of unused medications, and nationally the all-time weight collected is 19,820,761 lbs.
