Elks to Host Kids’ Golf Fundraiser

The Elks Riders will host a kids’ golfing event on May 17th to raise funds for KETCH. The organization, which serves adult Kansans with disabilities but helping them find employment and independence, with a heavy focus on quality of life.

The golf tournament will take place at the Clay Center Public Golf Course and is open to kids 8-18.

“I had been wanting to do something with kids to raise money for this organization,” said Brittany Stimatze, event organizer. “And I decided to do a golf tournament for something that could be fun.”

Though Stimatze doesn’t golf much, she said she enjoys the game and thinks it will be something local kids can enjoy. Her 11-year-old son will also be participating, she said.

Skills and games will be held for kids 8-12 from 9 am to noon.

“It’s more geared toward games and fundamentals with them,” she said.

Then from 1 to 4, kids 13 to 18 will play a nine-hole tournament.

Entry is $10 per youth, and lunch is provided. Kids 8 to 13 must have a parent or guardian present at the event. A waiver needs to be signed for all kids. (Entry fees were reduced after a large donation was received.)

A lunch of hot dogs, chips, and a cookie will be served and prizes will be awarded.

Register by texting or calling Brittany at 785-914-9086.

In the 1960s, the Kansas Elks Association adopted KETCH as its major philanthropic project. To date the program has provided more than 30,000 people with job opportunities and an increased quality of life.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own golf clubs and carts, if available.
