New Kansas City Royals closer Carlos Estévez will make his spring training debut Friday against the Los Angeles Angels after recovering from lower back tightness.
Estévez, 32, threw a live bullpen session Tuesday, and manager Matt Quatraro said he is ready to pitch. The Royals signed him to a two-year, $22 million contract after he posted a 2.45 ERA with 26 saves in 31 chances for the Angels and Phillies last season.
An All-Star in 2023, Estévez is expected to be the team’s main closer. He will get his first game action in a Royals uniform as he prepares for Opening Day.
