Evergy is urging customers to stay alert as scam attempts increase this summer. Scammers are using advanced tactics like fake websites, spoofed phone numbers, and third-party payment apps to steal from customers.
One common tactic involves fake websites that closely mimic Evergy’s official site. To stay safe, customers should always pay bills directly through evergy.com.
Scammers are also using spoofed phone numbers to appear legitimate—Evergy advises never sharing personal or financial information over the phone unless the caller’s identity has been verified. If there’s any doubt, customers should contact Evergy’s Customer Contact Center.
Another red flag is pressure to make an immediate payment with the threat of service disconnection. Evergy emphasizes that it sends multiple notices before cutting off service. Payment demands through apps like Cash App or with gift cards are also a sign of fraud, as the company does not accept those methods.
In-person impersonators are another concern; customers should check for an ID, branded clothing, or call Evergy directly. Any special discounts or pricing should only be trusted if found on the company’s official website.
Customers can report scams via Evergy’s online scam form and should also alert local law enforcement.
