On October 12th at 3:55 pm, a two-vehicle accident took place seven miles west of Clay Center on Highway 24.
According to a report by the Kansas Highway Patrol, two passengers died at the scene, three were taken to area hospitals, and one was uninjured.
The head-on collision took place when a 2001 Ford Ranger, traveling east, crossed the center line, for an unknown reason, and struck a 2004 Sienna, traveling west. The Ford came to rest facing north in the north ditch. The Siena came to rest on its passenger side facing West in the South ditch.
The two deceased included a 79-year-old female, and a 72-year-old male, both from Gardner. The report stated that neither was wearing a safety restraint.
Injured parties included an 18-year-old male from Clay Center, a 55-year-old female, and an 80-year-old man, both of Gardner.
The final occupant was a 47-year-old male from Shawnee who was uninjured.
