Five-Run Second Lifts K-State Past Columbia

The Kansas State Wildcats secured a series win with a 5-2 victory over the Columbia Lions on Saturday at Tointon Family Stadium.

K-State trailed 2-0 after the first inning before responding with five runs in the second. Ty Smolinski hit a three-run home run to right field to give the Wildcats the lead. The inning included four hits and two walks.

Lincoln Sheffield improved to 3-0, allowing two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings. After the first inning, he retired 19 of the next 23 batters and finished with eight strikeouts. The Wildcats are now 8-4.

Cohen Feser recorded his second save, closing the game with a scoreless ninth.

Six K-State players had hits, led by two from Shintaro Inoue. The Wildcats open a three-game series Friday against SIUE.
