Forever Royal: Moustakas Ends Career in Kansas City

Mike Moustakas retired as a Kansas City Royal on Saturday, closing a 13-year MLB career. Drafted No. 2 overall in 2007, Moustakas debuted with the Royals in 2011 and became a key player during their 2014 AL pennant and 2015 World Series wins.

Known for his iconic 2014 ALCS catch, Moustakas hit 139 home runs over eight seasons with Kansas City. He set the Royals’ single-season home run record in 2017 with 38 homers before being traded in 2018.

Though he played for other teams later, Moustakas always considered Kansas City home. He finished his career with 215 home runs and three All-Star appearances.

At his retirement ceremony, Moustakas thanked the Royals organization, teammates, and fans, saying Kansas City was “my family” and where he wanted to finish his career.
