Fort Hays State University Hosts Annual Math Relays with 650 Students from 48 Kansas High Schools Competing

Fort Hays State University’s Math and Computer Science departments hosted the annual Math Relays on November 13 at the Memorial Union. High school students from across the region participated in six mathematical challenges throughout the day. The events tested skills in number sense, trigonometry, algebra, geometry, algebraic applications, and calculator-based calculations.

A total of 650 students from 48 Kansas high schools, ranging from 1A to 6A, competed in divisions based on school size (1A, 2-3A, and 4-6A). Students competed individually or in teams of three, with each participant completing at least four of the six tests.

The top six individuals and teams in each grade level earned points for their schools, and medals were awarded to the top three finishers in each event. The top three schools in each division were also recognized with plaques.
