Fort Hays State University (FHSU) has launched a new hybrid pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing program aimed at aspiring nurses in rural Kansas. This program offers a flexible educational path, combining online and face-to-face learning, which is particularly beneficial for students with work commitments or those living far from nursing programs.
The hybrid format allows students to take theory-based courses online and participate in synchronous learning, facilitating real-time interaction with instructors and peers. Lab and clinical experiences are bundled together to reduce travel, enabling students to gain essential hands-on experience while staying close to home.
The program prepares students for the NCLEX-RN examination, critical for becoming registered nurses, and FHSU has a 100% pass rate for recent cohorts. With a growing demand for nurses in Kansas, projected to exceed 20,000 RN job openings by 2030, this program offers a timely opportunity for students to enter the healthcare field.
“I am so excited to impact the nursing workforce by educating through a hybrid modality, allowing students to stay in their own communities and travel to Hays for bundled clinical experiences,” said Dr. Jenny Manry, Chair of the Department of Nursing. “By educating students in place, we can increase nurses across Western Kansas and throughout the state.”
Admissions occur annually, with the application cycle opening on November 1. Students are encouraged to apply early due to the program’s competitive nature. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and submit official transcripts. For additional details or to begin the application process, visit the FHSU Department of Nursing website.
