Fort Riley holds Month of the Military Child Parade

Since 1986, the Department of Defense has recognized April as Month of the Military as a way to honor the commitment and sacrifice made by military children, who typically experience frequent moves and parents with busy training schedules and frequent deployments. This year’s theme is “Military Children and Youth: Standing Strong and Proud.”

The parade will conclude with the reading of proclamations proclaiming April as the Month of the Military Child and also Child Abuse Prevention Month. Col. William McKannay, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Riley Commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy Speichert, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Riley Command Sgt. Maj., will sign both proclamations.
