In January 1873, Hutchinson’s Reno County Agricultural Society held its first fair in a small wooden building. Despite setbacks, including a failed 1874 fair and grasshopper infestations, the society successfully hosted the Reno County Fair in 1875. Over the years, the fairgrounds expanded and evolved, eventually becoming the Kansas State Fair in 1903. The fair is now a celebrated annual event.
This year’s fair will take place September 6-15 in Hutchinson at the Kansas State Fairgrouds. New events include pig races, goat yoga, Seniors Got Talent, and more. The Fairground’s newest addition, the 1861 Club, will serve as a climate-controlled venue offering fine dining, beverages, and entertainment for fair attendees.
You can find a full list of events, an accessibility guide, map, and more on the Kansas State Fair website.
