On July 24th, K-9s from the Gearty County Sheriff’s Unit were honored by a quilt project out of Florida. Quilts from K9 Quilt of Honor were made with the likeness of K9 Enzo; it also honored Enzo’s handler, Deputy Cayla Diau. In addition, K9 Klesto received a quilt and was honored alongside handler, Deputy James Regalado.
Around 20 people gathered at Milford State Park where the quilts were presented and photos taken to commemorate the event. Game Wardens from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks were also in attendance.
The K9 Quilt of Honor recognizes Law Enforcement Officers on the local, state, and federal level, military, fire-working K9s and their handlers for their willingness to serve their community and stand in harm’s way to keep people safe.
Sheriff Nate Boeckman said, “I am incredibly proud of our K9 units. Not only for their outstanding work in fighting crime, but also for their dedication to community outreach through school visits and local events. Having them recognized by the K9 Quilt organization is a tremendous honor for our office.”
