A Georgia man has been sentenced to five years of probation and permanently banned from hunting and fishing in Kansas after illegally killing two deer in the state.
Matt Jennings, 35, of Bowdon, Georgia, pleaded guilty to two counts of illegally transporting white-tailed deer across state lines.
According to court documents, Jennings shot an antlered deer near Florence, Kansas, on November 11, 2022, in an area not covered by his Kansas hunting tag. He then traveled to Oklahoma and falsely registered the kill using an Oklahoma electronic tag. Eight days later, he killed another antlered deer near Wakeeney. Although he had a valid tag for that region, Kansas law allows hunters to take only one antlered deer per season.
Jennings, who hosts a hunting show called The Game, featured both illegal hunts on his program.
A federal judge ordered him to pay $15,000 in restitution to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, a $10,000 fine, and forfeit the antlers. While on probation, he’s banned from any hunting or outdoor guiding in eight other states. Multiple wildlife agencies and the U.S. Secret Service assisted with the investigation.
