General Motors (GM) announced it will spend about $4 billion over the next two years to boost car production in the U.S., including both gas and electric vehicles. This will help GM build more than two million vehicles each year domestically.
GM is investing $888 million in its Tonawanda plant in New York to support a new V-8 engine. Other plants in Michigan, Kansas, and Tennessee will also increase production of popular vehicles.
- In Michigan, the Orion plant will start making gas-powered SUVs and pickup trucks in 2027, while the Detroit-Hamtramck Factory ZERO will focus on electric trucks and SUVs.
- In Kansas, the Fairfax plant will begin making gas-powered Chevrolet Equinox in 2027 and plans to build the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle by the end of 2025.
- In Tennessee, the Spring Hill plant will add gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer production alongside electric Cadillac models.
GM has 50 U.S. plants and supports nearly one million jobs. It continues to grow in gas and electric vehicle sales and plans to spend $10 to $12 billion annually on investments through 2027.
