Governor Laura Kelly announced Friday, May 23, that over $2.3 million in federal grants will be distributed to strengthen support services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, and stalking in Kansas.

The funding comes from the federal S.T.O.P. (Services, Training, Officers, and Prosecutors) Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Formula Grant Program. These grants help expand and train specialized law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, and court staff to better respond to crimes against women. They also support victim services, legal aid, and efforts to improve coordination among community agencies.

Additional funding from the federal Sexual Assault Services Program (SASP) will help local organizations provide vital support for sexual assault survivors, such as crisis intervention, advocacy, and accompaniment during medical exams or legal proceedings.

Both grant programs are administered by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women.
