On Friday, Governor Laura Kelly announced that food drives will be held at the remaining stops of her statewide “The People’s Budget” listening tour in partnership with the Kansas Food Bank and Harvesters – The Community Food Network.
Kansans are invited to bring non-perishable food donations to help local communities, particularly those affected by the federal government shutdown who rely on SNAP and WIC benefits. High-demand items include canned protein, infant formula, canned fruits and vegetables, dried beans, whole-grain pasta, and brown rice. Perishable foods and items in glass containers should not be donated.
Space is limited, so RSVPs are encouraged. Doors open 15 minutes before each event, though entry may be restricted due to capacity.
The following stops remain on the tour:
- October 29: Hays and Garden City
- November 3: Kansas City, Kansas
- November 5: Leawood
- November 6: Emporia
- November 10: Pittsburg
- November 12: Wichita
