Governor Laura Kelly announced today, July 17, that $26 million will be allocated to 33 projects to improve intersections and roads in multiple cities across the state. These projects have been selected for funding through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s City Connecting Link Improvement Program (CCLIP).
CCLIP funds improvements to state highways that pass through cities. The cities will receive a combined total of approximately $26 million, with $5.5 million allocated for state fiscal year 2026 and $20.5 million for state fiscal year 2027.
Under the CCLIP, cities are required to contribute up to 25% of the project cost based on their population, although some cities contribute more. Cities with populations under 2,500 are not required to provide a match. Projects in this program fall into one of three categories: Surface Preservation (SP), Pavement Restoration (PR), or Geometric Improvement (GI).
SP projects, which involve maintenance work such as resurfacing, receive funding of up to $400,000 per project. PR projects typically involve full-depth pavement replacement without altering the overall geometric characteristics and may also address drainage issues. GI projects focus on geometric improvements such as adding turn lanes, enhancing intersections, or modifying lane configurations to increase capacity. PR and GI projects are funded up to $1.5 million per project.
