Governor Laura Kelly Announces Dates for Second Round of Kansas Water Plan Consultations; Virtual Option Available

Governor Laura Kelly announced the dates for the second round of local consultation meetings to gather feedback on strategies for implementing the 2022 Kansas Water Plan. The September meetings will build on the initial local consultations and Regional Advisory Committee meetings held earlier this summer. Kansans can RSVP for the upcoming meetings here.

“Preserving the quality and quantity of our water is an existential issue for our state,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “These meetings will help build a program that provides the collective, coordinated action on water conservation and quality that communities across Kansas need, in both the short and long term.”

Attendees will have the chance to share their feedback through guided group discussions focused on:

  •  Revised investment scenarios reflecting input gathered during the first round;
  •  The key criteria for evaluating investment strategies to meet the Plan’s long-term goals concerning aquifers, reservoirs, and water quality;
  •  Establishing objectives and determining what Kansans consider reasonable actions to achieve them; and
  •  Preferred revenue sources to achieve the objectives.

The Kansas Water Office, Kansas Department of Agriculture, and Kansas Department of Health and Environment will hold the local consult meetings from Tuesday, September 17 to Thursday, September 19; from Tuesday, September 24 to Thursday, September 26; and on Monday, September 30.

Alongside the in-person meetings, a virtual, on-demand option will be available. Click here to sign up for updates on the availability of the online meeting.
