Governor Laura Kelly Announces Over $1.5 Million in Funding to Combat Domestic Violence and Support Families

Governor Laura Kelly announced on Monday, December 30, that over $1.5 million will be allocated to 20 organizations to support efforts in preventing family, domestic, and dating violence, aiding survivors, and promoting safe parenting time for noncustodial parents. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) and the State Access and Visitation Program (SAVP).

The FVPSA grant will allow organizations to offer a variety of services, including outreach and education to prevent family violence, emergency shelter for victims and their dependents, support groups, crisis intervention, advocacy for protection orders, court accompaniment, and transportation assistance. It also funds initiatives to raise awareness in schools, communities, and families about preventing violence.

The SAVP grant will help provide supervised exchange and visitation services for children and families. It will also fund on-site and therapeutic supervision, monitored exchanges, referrals to additional resources, and educational parenting classes to strengthen family relationships.

A total of $1,442,065 in FVPSA grant funds has been awarded to 20 agencies.
