Governor Laura Kelly Joins Officials to Open Hilmar Cheese Company’s $600 Million Facility in Dodge City

Governor Laura Kelly joined federal, state, and local officials on Saturday, March 15, to celebrate the opening of Hilmar Cheese Company‘s new production facility in Dodge City, Kansas. Hilmar, one of the world’s largest cheese manufacturers, produces American-style cheese and whey ingredients at the site. The facility also manufactures a range of innovative proteins for global customers.

The plant features advanced technology focused on sustainability, using automated control systems to minimize water and energy consumption. Recycled water is used for processing, cleaning, and heat recovery, further reducing environmental impact. Efficient pumps and equipment help lower Greenhouse Gas (GHG) intensity and water usage.

Hilmar is committed to achieving a carbon-neutral dairy industry by 2050 through the U.S. Dairy Stewardship Commitment. The Dodge City facility, with nearly 250 employees, represents a $600 million capital investment in the region.

“I am pleased that Hilmar Cheese Company chose to build its new production facility in Dodge City,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “This investment in our state is a strong signal to industry leaders around the globe that Kansas has the workforce and infrastructure for companies to be competitive.”
