In line with Executive Order #20-30, Governor Laura Kelly has ordered all flags across Kansas state buildings, grounds, and facilities to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, October 11, 2024, in honor of former Kansas Speaker of the House Marvin Williams Barkis, who passed away on July 19, 2024.

“Speaker Barkis championed legislation throughout his career that propelled our schools forward and supported Kansas families,” Governor Laura Kelly said.“His contributions to our state will not be forgotten. My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones.”
