Earlier this week, Governor Laura Kelly, following Executive Order #20-30, ordered flags throughout Kansas to be flown at half-staff on all state buildings, grounds, and facilities until the day of interment, in honor of former Kansas Speaker of the House Marvin Williams Barkis, who passed away on July 19, 2024.

As Speaker Barkis will be interred on Oct. 11, flags on all state buildings, grounds, and facilities should be raised to full-staff immediately and then lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Oct. 11. A reminder will be sent closer to the date.
