Governor Laura Kelly has sent a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requesting an extension to submit a request for major presidential disaster designation under the Public Assistance Program for the period of September 8–10, 2025.
The extension, requested through November 9, 2025, covers severe thunderstorms accompanied by large hail, damaging straight-line winds, and heavy rainfall that caused widespread flooding, including river, creek, and stream flooding.
Governor Kelly requested the extension to allow additional time for preliminary damage assessments with FEMA, review assessment data, and pursue federal assistance through the Public Assistance Program. The program provides cost-sharing funds to repair damaged public infrastructure, including roads and bridges.
