Governor Laura Kelly has submitted a request to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for a disaster loan declaration for Butler County following severe weather and flooding that occurred from June 3–7. The request seeks SBA disaster loan assistance to help residents and businesses recover from the impact of torrential rainfall and resulting damage.

State officials conducted damage assessments to evaluate the need for federal assistance. If approved, the declaration would allow affected homeowners, renters, and businesses to apply for low-interest, long-term loans to help with repairs and rebuilding.

To meet SBA requirements, Kansas must demonstrate that at least 25 homes or businesses sustained major damage, with at least 40 percent of those losses uninsured. The goal of the request is to provide financial support that helps the community recover and rebuild more quickly.
