The Green Revitalization Organization (GRO) invites everyone to their ‘Ribs, Rhythm, and Rides’ barbecue fundraiser on Saturday, October 4th, in the city park.  Food will be served from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., with proceeds from the event going to save the historic bank downtown.

GRO member Molly Brew helped organize the event, with her husband being tasked with cooking up the ribs for attendees. Brew said GRO purchased the historic bank, hoping to save the deteriorating building.

“The current building was built around 1928, and over the years, it’s been a lot of different things. For probably over 20 years now, it’s basically been vacant, and it’s starting to deteriorate.”

“So, GRO decided we’re going to take on this huge task of trying to save this building. It has kind of become very important to us not to let this one go.”

The afternoon will be filled with delicious food, live music, a classic car show, and more. GRO will also be putting on a Silent Auction, with many large items already being donated.

GRO members are also currently offering raffle tickets, where two lucky winners will win a half hog for processing, with all expenses paid. Brew spoke more about the raffle.

“We thought it would be fun to raffle off a hog, something that everybody can use.”

“We were able to get Roth Farms to donate the hog, so we’re very grateful for that, and the Clay Center Locker Plant graciously offered to do the processing.”

“If you win the raffle, you won’t have to pay for anything. We are selling raffle tickets now, clear up until the night of the event.”

Brew said they plan to set up at the Green Café to sell tickets, along with possibly expanding to Clay Center. Raffle tickets can also be purchased by messaging them at the Green, KS Facebook page.

Brew said they are still getting ideas for additional fun at the event. Head to Green on October 4th, eat some great food, and have some fun, all while supporting an important initiative for Green.
