Hormel Foods Corporation is recalling approximately 256,185 pounds of its canned Dinty Moore Beef Stew due to possible contamination with wood, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
The affected product was produced on February 4, 2025, and includes 20-ounce cans labeled “Dinty Moore BEEF STEW” with a “BEST BY FEB 2028” date and lot code “T02045” (which may include an additional digit). The cans also display the establishment number “EST 199G” and were distributed to retailers nationwide.

The issue came to light after Hormel received three consumer complaints about finding pieces of wood in the product. No injuries have been reported, but FSIS urges consumers to avoid eating the stew. It should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
Consumers with questions can contact Hormel at 800-523-4635 or media@hormel.com. For food safety concerns, call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 or visit fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
