House Republicans narrowly passed a sweeping bill early Thursday enacting key elements of Donald Trump’s tax and spending agenda. The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” passed 215–214 along party lines, extending tax cuts, repealing Biden-era clean energy incentives, funding a border wall, and creating new deportation infrastructure.

The bill also introduces new work requirements and cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, raising concerns that millions could lose access to these safety net programs. Despite the cuts, the Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill will add $3.8 trillion to the national debt over the next decade.

Republicans overcame internal divisions with last-minute deals, including expanded state and local tax deductions and trimmed safety net reductions. Democrats strongly oppose the measure, calling it harmful and unpopular. The legislation now moves to the Senate, where Republicans aim to finalize it by July 4. However, intraparty disagreements and growing debt concerns may complicate its path forward.
