I-70 to Close for Bridge Removal on September 4: Detour and School Closure Announced

The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Department announced this week that the Kansas Department of Transportation will close a 32-mile section of I-70 for one day next month to remove the 150th Avenue bridge in Trego County.

On Sept. 4, beginning at 4 a.m. I-70 will close between exit 95 at Grainfield and exit 127 at WaKeeney. Traffic will be diverted north to Highway 24. The closed stretch of highway will shut down at 6 a.m. until the bridge and debris are removed.

The sheriff’s office stated that due to the added traffic in the area, the Hoxie school district will be closed on September 4.

Drivers are reminded to be cautious, especially those unfamiliar with the area.
