Jayhawks Pull Away Late in Sunflower Showdown

No. 19 Kansas used a strong finish to defeat Kansas State 86-62 on Saturday night at Bramlage Coliseum. The loss snapped K-State’s three-game home winning streak in the series.

The game was close for much of the night, with Kansas holding a 37-35 lead at halftime. K-State cut the deficit to 59-55 midway through the second half, but the Jayhawks answered with an 8-0 run that shifted momentum. Kansas outscored the Wildcats 27-7 over the final 7:26 to pull away.

Junior P.J. Haggerty led all scorers with 23 points for K-State and added five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Andrej Kostic finished with 12 points, his first double-figure scoring game.

Kansas placed five players in double figures, led by Flory Bidunga’s 21 points and 10 rebounds. K-State played with a limited rotation due to injuries and shot 34.4 percent from the field.
