K-State Falls to Iowa State in Season Opener

In the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin, No. 17 Kansas State lost to No. 22 Iowa State, 24-21, on Saturday.

Quarterback Avery Johnson threw for 273 yards and two touchdowns, including a 65-yard strike to Jerand Bradley in the fourth quarter to pull within three points. However, Iowa State ran out the clock on its final drive, converting a key fourth down to seal the win.

K-State outgained Iowa State 383-313 but was just 1-for-4 on fourth downs. The Wildcats committed four turnovers, including a muffed punt by Dylan Edwards, who left with an injury.

Receiver Jayce Brown caught four passes for 78 yards and a score. Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

The loss was K-State’s third straight in the series. The Wildcats host North Dakota in their home opener next Saturday.
